Nicaragua - Las Hortensias
Nicaragua - Las Hortensias
Origin: Nicaragua
Producer: Ana Albir - Las Hortensias
Process: Washed
Varietal: Red Catuai
Tasting Notes: Caramel, fudge, citrus, malt
Comfort in a cup. Our second release and another Central American coffee, this represents our first step towards our aim of supporting female producers wherever we can. This washed Nicaragua sets itself apart by foregoing some of the fruitiness of our Costa Rica in favour of deeper notes of caramel and fudge, with a citrus sparkle to finish off.
An extremely easy drinker on filter or immersion brew, a really caramelly espresso, and an indulgent dessert vibe when paired with milk. Proper.
ABOUT THE PRODUCER
Las Hortensias farm, owned by Ana María Albir Sotomayor, has been in her family for over 50 years. The farm, named after the hydrangeas that grow there, spans about 2 hectares at altitudes between 1200 and 1300 meters.
The farm specializes in coffee grown with eco-friendly and sustainable methods. Forest species, fruit trees, and banana plants provide shade, creating a healthy environment for the coffee plants. The farm focuses on sustainability from social, economic, and environmental angles.
To keep the coffee plants healthy, the farm uses low-intensity pesticides, a mix of organic and synthetic fertilizers, and regular pruning. Coffee beans are handpicked only when they are perfectly ripe.
Las Hortensias is a small farm dedicated to producing high-quality coffee while caring for the environment and community.
After a long period of not drinking coffee, I have discovered the Full Spectrum Coffees. Thanks to their great flavours I am now enjoying drinking coffee again. Thank you.
Another fine roast from Full Spectrum Coffee Roasters. Shared around at work with everyone agreeing it made a lovely brew whether as an espresso or an Americano. Keep them coming Tom.
