Our Story

Meet Tom

Tom is on the autism spectrum. He also loves coffee. It’s kind of a special interest of his. That’s why he founded Full Spectrum Coffee.

As a student in Leeds, Tom was blessed with being surrounded by a vibrant and inclusive cafe culture, where he was welcomed as he was and his enthusiasm was embraced (special shout out to Matt and Martyn at Stage Espresso and Brew Bar).

But after graduating and moving to Shropshire, it soon became clear that not everywhere had quite the same vibe.

Tom had noticed that the coffee industry could be a pretty tough place if you’re on the spectrum. Lots of socialising, lots of fast paced environments, lots of noise. All things that many autistic folks struggle with.

So Tom set out to challenge that. He started Full Spectrum, with the aim of making it a space where anybody, autistic or otherwise, can explore their love of coffee.

What is Full Spectrum?

Honest

All of our coffee is traceable back to its origin, often to an individual grower’s lot. We buy many of our coffees in a way that means we know the exact dollar and cent rate that a producer has been paid, ensuring a truly fair deal for them, and peace of mind for you that what’s in your cup is the most honest it can be.

What is full spectrum?

Inclusive

Full Spectrum Coffee was founded on the principle that specialty coffee should be accessible for all.

That’s why we keep noise in our roastery to a minimum whenever possible, and the lights muted and well shaded.

We also offer a range of inclusive workshops and experiences, tailored to those with extra sensory sensitivities, but available to all.

Quality

Our coffee is roasted to order in small batches. That means that we perform quality control checks every 5kg, rather than some larger roasters which will be checking up to 120kg at a time! This means that we can make sure that only the best coffee makes it out of the door and into your cup!
